It’s probably a sure bet that no one in the world has been asked more than Chris Moneymaker whether that’s actually his real name. And the answer is, yes, that’s his actual birth name. If you haven’t heard of him and you’re a poker player, I’d be asking you where you’ve been all this time.
Moneymaker began his card career apparently playing bridge with his grandmother during his childhood. This love for cards then later redirected itself to playing blackjack with his father. Moneymaker was actually an accountant in his former life when won a seat into the main event of the 2003 World Series of Poker. He entered a $39 satellite tournament with 18 other players. He then found himself in a satellite to which the winner would receive a $10,000 buy-in to the WSOP. He had managed to turn that $39 into $10,000. He went on to win the first prize which was a whopping $2.5 mil.
His victory at the WSOP transformed Moneymaker from an unknown player into a pro player over night and is largely regarded as the catalyst for a poker boom, earning the title the ‘Moneymaker Effect’.
If you want to read more about him, check out his book, Moneymaker: How an Amateur Poker Player Turned $40 into $2.5 Million at the World Series of Poker.
Greetings, Interesting, I`ll quote it on my site later.
Thank you
