Do You Follow Poker Etiquette?

Aside from the formal rules of the game, there is a loose social code of conduct which new players should familiarize themselves with (even though most of them seem like common sense!). Regardless of whether you’re playing online or in a casino, there is a certain standard of behavior that is expected. At the heart of all of these etiquettes is basically respect for the other poker players around the table.

  • Don’t slow down the table especially if you are playing online poker because you’re deciding what to do or are trying to multitask other activities. Delays while you consider your next move will only frustrate everyone else.
  • Don’t abuse or insult other players on the chat function if you’re playing online and avoid using capital letters as this typically represents shouting. Its best to keep the game friendly.
  • Don’t talk too much as its distracting for the others.
  • Don’t comment on a hand that’s still in progress. Let the others concentrate on their own game.
  • Don’t act out of turn even if you have decided to fold your cards because you’re giving an advantage to the players before you.
  • Don’t throw chips into the pot because it’s unclear to other players and the dealer how much you have wagered.
