Poker Styles and Style Changing Strategies

Poker Styles and Style Changing Strategies

There is no clear line between different game styles. Without going into particulars, we can say there are as many playing styles as there are poker players. Each player has the right to choose his own tactics and interpret any strategies whichever way he likes. However, the most common approach is to divide poker styles into the following categories: tight, loose, and an intermediate approach which has features of both tight and loose styles.

The first, tight, style is characterized by a strict selection of starting hands. This means that a tight player will enter the pot only if he has a strong starting hand – pocket Queens, or King and Ace suited, etc. Loose player will play any kind of hand and enter the pot in every round. Such tactics are bound to become losing in the long run, since the player’s whole game will depend on mere luck. You may use this tactic if you play free poker games, otherwise you bust-up after a couple of hours!

Online poker players with little experience are always advised to choose a tighter style, otherwise they risk to lose their entire bankroll within a very short time.

It can be highly profitable to choose a strategy of constant style changing. Switching from one style to another will help you fool your opponents, and they won’t be able to read your actions as well as they would with a single poker style. After a while, if you stayed in the game long enough, they will figure out your tactics, but they still won’t be able to tell exactly when and which style you’ll be switching to.
