Who to watch at this year’s WSOP

I have little doubt that there will be great speculation and hype around the début of Annette Obrestad at the 2010 WSOP. There will be much coverage about her first appearance not only because of her rapid rise to fame but also because it seems to me that the media is taking a greater interest in exposing the talents of female poker players and giving them a spot in the limelight. This extra attention, however, is deserved as they are increasingly climbing the ranks and achieving great prominence in the major live poker events. So if you haven’t yet heard of Annette, I bet you’re wondering who she is, right? She’s the 21 year old Norwegian who was the youngest person ever to win a World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) bracelet in 2007. She began playing online poker at the tender age of 15 although she claims that she never deposited a dime of her own money and instead grew her online bankroll by winning freeroll poker tournaments. Annette is now sponsored by Full Tilt Poker as of 1st May (she was previously signed with Betfair). She will have a heavy schedule of events at this year’s WSOP so you’re sure to see her. There will be great expectations on her and I hope she has the experience to carry the burden. Good luck Annette!
